Pitkin is a Statutory Town in Gunnison County, Colorado, United States. Pitkin was founded in 1879, and is said to be Colorado's first mining camp west of the Continental Divide. Originally named Quartzville, it was renamed to honor Governor Frederick W. Pitkin.〔(History of Pitkin )〕 ==Geography== Pitkin is located at (38.607886, -106.518454). Pitkin is at an elevation of 9,242 feet, about 28 miles northeast of Gunnison, Colorado. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land.
